Sticky Doors After Painting: Ask About Blocking Before Changing Hardware
A newly painted door that sticks at a contacting surface can raise both a finish question and an operation question. Before altering hinges, trimming an edge or replacing weather-stripping, identify where the contact occurs and who should review it. A coating interaction should not be confused with every possible cause of a sticking door.
Separate contact adhesion from mechanical rubbing
A door may rub against another component, or painted surfaces may adhere where they touch. Sherwin-Williams discusses the latter condition as blocking, including interactions between certain coatings and weather-stripping. That background does not establish the cause of a particular door problem. Describe the location and ordinary operating history without repeatedly forcing the door or pulling an adhered surface apart to demonstrate the issue for a photograph.
Give the reviewer the material context
Provide the actual coating identity if known, approximate application timing and any recent change to the seal or hardware. Mark missing information as unknown instead of selecting a similar product online. A product chosen for a wall or trim sample does not automatically answer compatibility at a contacting interface. Ask the relevant provider which material and operating questions need review before another finish or hardware change is proposed.
Keep adjustments within the proper scope
Do not assume sanding, cutting or adding a lubricant is an appropriate fix, especially where a door has a required protective function. Ask the qualified team to distinguish finish work from an adjustment or specialist decision. Any access concern should receive prompt appropriate attention rather than waiting for a paint article to resolve it. The useful handoff identifies the reviewed cause, proposed scope and operating limitations without promising a universal cure time or declaring the door compliant.

Worked example
Illustrative example: a fictional owner reports a door sticking against its seal after painting. The provider reviews the contact materials and timing before suggesting work. The owner does not trim the door or replace the seal simply because the finish looks dry, and the review does not presume that every sticking door has blocking.
